More Sunset pics :)

Actually, this is after the sun has set, but still. Mostly a test picture to show off my cameras lovely low noise. This picture was shot with ISO 500; notice the sweet, smooth gradient and soft colours :) http://www.fjetland.com/pictures/edited/2005/050122Sunset.jpgAnother Sunset

Not much to say, really... just another sunset picture taken from my bedroom window this afternoon. The original had too much of the foreground buildings showing, so I tried darkening them away using Levels.New Mouse! :-D

Bought a new mouse last week, for my über-excellent BF/BFV/DC gaming... After evaluating the options carefully I decided that the ultimate gaming companion to my trusted allround mouse Logitech MX900 would be the cool little Razer Diamondback Magma. So what's wrong with the MX900? Well, I've noticed that in fast and intense first perspective shooters, it has a tendency to lag behind a bit. Also, it's pretty heavy (with the batteries and all, so after a long gaming session I can feel the strain in my arm. Finally, I've had some problems properly configuring the buttons in some programs (like BF), and some of their placements are awkward. So far I haven't installed the mouse drivers for the Diamondback, since they come with very strong suggestions not to do so without uninstalling other mousedrivers first. I'll try to run the Logitech drivers and these side by side, but not until I have the time to clean up should anything go terribly wrong. But so far everything is going swell, the mouse works very well, is extremely responsive, light, and so I even find myself using it for some general work too. At least it's a good backup since I regularly forget to charge the MX900 when I'm away. Did I mention how cool it is? So, what about the competition then? Well, the only one I can see trying to match the Razer Viper and Diamondbacks in responsiveness is the Logitech MX1000 laser mouse. But when I mentioned this in the store, the dude behind the counter (a fellow geek) brought out a unit for me to test. And boy was I surprised! It's even heavier than the MX900 a LOT heavier! How anyone can do any ammount of gaming (or intense work over some time) with this, is beyond me. Which also makes me wonder what kind of testing Stéphane Kaufmann did in the Tomshardware.com article about the Diamondback. I suppose it might be an issue of taste, somehow... or possibly lubrication...Back from .dk

Yesterday I came back from a two day meeting/workshop/discussion at our Copenhagen office. There was a representative from a consultancy company giving a presentation on the features of SMS 2003, and in between (much to his frustration, I think) we got some good discussions going. While I must admit that it doesn't look nearly as polished and advanced as I expected, I think it has great potential, and it's certainly more flexible in both structure and implementation possibilities than some other solutions I've seen. It was an intense two days, and when I finally got home around 22:30 on friday, I barely got my clothes off before I fell asleep :)Some New Years Eve pictures

Following up on the delayed christmas pictures, I figured I'd fill in with some of the pictures I took on New Years Eve. This actually includes not only my first attempts to shoot fireworks with my D70 digital SLR, but actually my first serious attempt at shooting fireworks at all... it's with things like this that the advantage of digital cams really become evident, as there's a lot of trial and error, an you get instant feedback. I'm really pleased with some of these pics, many were taken with ISO values of over 1000, and yet there's surprisingly little noise. Anyway, I figured I'd start with my speciality, sunsets :D This is not any sunset, either... it's the last sunset of 2004, on New Years Eve. Anyway, off to the party, etc... 8 hours later, at midnight, the sky lights up with all sorts of fireworks - from the large, but simple to the more complex. However, my favourites were the pictures where I managed to capture the crowds in the light from the fireworks. It wasn't easy when only using handheld equipment and people moving about all the time, but I think I managed to capture some neat ones.
