Another Sunset
Posted by TomasF
Not much to say, really... just another sunset picture taken from my bedroom window this afternoon. The original had too much of the foreground buildings showing, so I tried darkening them away using Levels.
Some New Years Eve pictures

Following up on the delayed christmas pictures, I figured I'd fill in with some of the pictures I took on New Years Eve. This actually includes not only my first attempts to shoot fireworks with my D70 digital SLR, but actually my first serious attempt at shooting fireworks at all... it's with things like this that the advantage of digital cams really become evident, as there's a lot of trial and error, an you get instant feedback.
I'm really pleased with some of these pics, many were taken with ISO values of over 1000, and yet there's surprisingly little noise.
Anyway, I figured I'd start with my speciality, sunsets :D
This is not any sunset, either... it's the last sunset of 2004, on New Years Eve.
Anyway, off to the party, etc...
8 hours later, at midnight, the sky lights up with all sorts of fireworks - from the large, but simple to the more complex.
However, my favourites were the pictures where I managed to capture the crowds in the light from the fireworks. It wasn't easy when only using handheld equipment and people moving about all the time, but I think I managed to capture some neat ones.
Some Christmas pictures

Since the christmas period was mostly spent trying not to think of computing issues at all, I didn't post any of the pictures I took during the vacations. I figured I'd correct that by posting some of them in the time to come.
Starting off with christmas, I spent it with my parents at the cottage. On Christmas eve there wasn't a snowcrystal to be seen, which was kind of ok, or else we wouldn't have been able to drive up the steep forrest road. On the morning after, however, we were met with a quite different view:
Our cottage on the 1st day of christmas ..and it continued snowing throughout the 1st day of christmas... and snowing... and snowing... ...until the next day, when the weather was clear and cold, and we got a proper winter-wonderland:
Fjord view on the 2nd day (This is the view from one side of the cottage) It's weird to think about that as I was taking this picture of beauty and tranquility, reports were starting to come in over the radio about a disaster developing in southern Asia, a disaster noone yet knew would develop into one of the biggest catastrophies of modern times.
Did you do your bit yet? That's enough for this post, watch out for more soon...

The world's on fire

Hm, just came across this on my cameras CF card. Taken about a week ago, I think it's kinda neat. The colours are really strong, and somehow the birds waiting in the tree add a gloomy feel.
